About Coloradans for Financial Freedom

Coloradans for Financial Freedom (CFF) is a non-partisan grassroots group in Colorado.

Our mission is to ensure that our financial transactions are private and free of outside interference.

Why we exist:

Financial transaction freedom is essential to an individual’s mental and physical health, family and social life, and economic livelihood and security. People depend on their ability to do financial transactions without interference on a daily or weekly basis. Financial transaction freedom is also essential for businesses and organizations to function. As digital programmable money (stablecoins and crypto) becomes more widespread, we want to make certain that individuals, businesses and organizations have access to cash and non-programmable payment systems (credit cards, debit cards, checks) which preserve their privacy and freedom.

Goals of Coloradans for Financial Freedom:

1. To protect and preserve our financial transaction freedom. Financial transaction freedom is the ability to use multiple options to make contracts and effect transactions on a timely basis at reasonable cost without interference. This freedom must be protected. Characteristics that are essential for financial transaction freedom are: privacy; no compromise of personal sovereignty and legal rights; enforceability of laws; availability of multiple transaction options without monopoly control or abuse of anti-trust laws; clarity and transparency; ability to use non-programmable money for payments, including cash, credit cards, debit cards and checks; access to multiple banking and financial institutions that serve local communities, businesses, and farms; and a governmental and judicial infrastructure that protects the rule of law with respect to the financial system and transactions. For more information on financial transaction freedom, see here.

2. To protect and preserve our civil liberties and civil rights in relation to financial transactions and privacy.

3. For the Colorado legislature to pass legislation that:

     (a) prohibits requiring the use of programmable money for any transaction without offering a non-programmable alternative free of charge.

     (b) prohibits discrimination by issuers of programmable money (financial institutions, their subsidiaries and non-bank entities, private companies and potentially government entities). Programmability (through computer programs) allows the issuer to put virtually any condition or conditions on a person’s, organization’s or a business’ financial transactions.

4. The potential for abuses by programmable money systems include: surveillance, tracking, invasions of privacy, unlimited control over financial transactions, coercion, and violations of civil liberties and civil rights.

5. To educate people about the potential abuses and dangers of programmable money and organize them to talk to legislators regarding passing the legislation described in point.

6. To hold legislators accountable for: (a) protecting the public interest in the area of financial transaction freedom on an ongoing basis; (b) preventing abuses by governments, and large banks and financial institutions; and (c) communicating effectively with the public on the importance of financial transaction freedom.
